Be skeptical of power, no matter who has it

A listener asks which President gave me no cause for concern about their use of power. My answer: None of them. I don't trust individual leaders with vast power -- I might like them, favor them, vote for them, support them, or even work for them (if one were to ask) -- but I don't trust them personally with great power. I trust the systems of checks and balances that are essential to our political system. Skepticism isn't cynicism -- it's just a healthy refusal to show deference to power for its own sake.

The best time to reinforce those systems and to restrain big government power is when you're in the majority...because someday, you won't be anymore.
