It sounds mean to say this, perhaps, but too many people rely on government rules to protect their jobs. That hurts the rest of us. A great example is the decision by the Washington, DC, municipal government to require that child-care workers have college degrees.
Not only is that probably not necessary, it will make child care even more expensive. But that's what happens when keeping the competition away becomes the chief priority.
