"We got the dang paper out"

Listen to the interview with Times-Republican news editor Emily Barske from the July 21, 2018 episode

When the tornado hit Marshalltown the other day, it hit the offices of the local newspaper, too. Emily Barske is a Marshalltown native, but it was only her second week on the job as news editor of the Times-Republican.

Despite the paper's office being right in the tornado's path, the staff there managed to cover the story and get the paper out the next day. Their coverage deserves applause -- and the community will need help from the rest of us in Central Iowa as they recover.

Today would be a good day to hug a local journalist. Then, listen to Emily's story, as told to us live this weekend on WHO Radio:
