The little rover that could

Why were people cheering so hard for the Opportunity Rover that explored Mars for almost 15 years, and why are they so sad their little spacefaring buddy is forever powered down? Emilee Richardson of the Science Center of Iowa (and a NASA "ambassador"!) answered those questions and shared her own ode to the little rover that could. Listen in!

Some of my favorite factoids about Opportunity:

  • It was only designed to go 1,100 yards, but it went more than 28 miles
  • It sent back more than 217,000 images -- a lot more than you'll find on most Instagram accounts
  • It found convincing evidence that water existed in liquid form on Mars at some time in the past (and maybe even today)
