Last week with the cold temperatures, we were thinking the gardening season was coming to a close and there were some tasks we couldn't quite wrap up. Fortunately for us who are still working in the garden or haven't started - looks like we have another chance!
Here are some key last minute tasks that we'll be completing in the next couple of days:
*Cleaning out annual containers and moving clay pots into the garage or basement, where they will be protected from freezing temperatures
*Wrap newly planted trees with tree wrap to protect against rabbits or deer
*Continue watering newly established trees and shrubs
*You can still plant Spring blooming bulbs- but do it very soon if you haven't already
*Detach garden hoses to prevent bursting of outdoor faucets
*Hang Holiday lights while the temperatures are still somewhat favorable. If hanging on shrubs or trees, be sure to remove promptly after the Holidays in order to not affect plant growth
*Organize your potting shed or garden tool area/ clean your tools. This is also a great opportunity to take inventory of your gardening tools and see if you might want to add some to your Holiday wish list!
Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, be sure to pick up some small pumpkins and gourds for your tablescape! Enjoy eating seasonally- we've been enjoying Fall greens, sweet potatoes, squash, and Brussels sprouts!
