The Iowa State Fair is just around the corner.
This week, we are visiting with Dean Brand who is one of the co-chairs of the Discovery Garden at the Iowa State Fair. This garden is one of the several major projects of the Polk County Master Gardener Program. It always is a highlight of many, located just outside of the Agricultural Building. You will find interesting plant combinations, new plants, and overall beauty when you stroll through. If you have questions, Master Gardener volunteers are staffed throughout the fair and may be able to help!
You can find more information about this garden (including plant lists), history and more HERE.
We'll be broadcasting live from this garden next Sunday, so be sure to say hello!
Don't forget about the Best Tasting Tomato Contest on August 11th at the state fair!
The contest is free to enter and cash prizes will be awarded. Just bring 2 of your delicious red tomatoes to the fair. You can find more information HERE (Division 151, Page 17).
This week, we've also had questions on mushroom identification.
Always be careful when it comes to foraging as some fungi may not be what they seem. If in doubt, you can submit a sample to the Iowa State University Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic. They can also help with other issues including disease, plant identification, and more.
