The House of Representatives has sent two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate. The House voted to impeach President Trump last month, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held off on sending the articles to Senate over concerns that the Republican-controlled body would not hold a fair trial.
The impeachment articles accuse the president of abusing the power of his office by withholding $400 million in military aid to Ukraine. They allege Trump refused to release the money until the Ukrainian officials agreed to launch a corruption investigation into Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
Earlier in the day, Pelosi named seven managers who will serve as prosecutors in the Senate trial. House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff will be the lead manager and will be joined by six other Democratic legislators.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the trial could start next Tuesday (January 21).
