Goodwill Launched Curated Shop For Unique Gift-Giving

Everyone's looking for unique gift ideas and Goodwill of Iowa figured out a clever solution. Every day they receive a large amount of items with little to no background knowledge of the items. This year, they have appointed specialists to hand pick and curate unique and valuable items for gifts. It's called Styled By Goodwill.

Styled By Goodwill

Sarah Ekstrand of Goodwill joined us to discuss their concept called Styled By Goodwill. This is the first year they are testing this concept. The curated shopping experience is new to the Des Moines market and they will be watching this concept closely to see how customers respond and what kind of feedback is generated.

Goodwill has three curators on staff that will be hand selecting the items pulling from 19 different retail stores. Their collection will be a diverse mix of clothing, accessories, furniture, housewares, and collectibles, meaning there is little chance you can possibly predict what items will be for sale.

Ekstrand told us Because Goodwill constantly receives donations, the Styled By Goodwill pop-up shop will be refreshed daily, potentially meaning patrons will seeing a new diverse selection of items every single day.

Personally, this reminds me of how retail was always meant to be. Retail stores used to offer us new and exciting ideas — the shopping idea was an experience. But today, retail stores seem to just attempt to keep up with internet retailers and big box stores. The Styled By Goodwill model seems to be a nod to those special times, when shopping for a gift was just as much an idea generation experience as it was a buying experience.

How To Find Styled By Goodwill
