Exactly how will Iowa pay for a 248 mile expansion and rebuild of I80 to six lines be paid for? The DOT thinks charging tolls is a 'feasible' way, but it is being met with lots of opposition.
The project would include widening and rebuilding I-80 over a five year period, between 2022 and 2026.
Cars would be charged eight cents per mile, while trucks would be charged 24 cents per mile.
It would be financed with long-term bonding by toll fees over 35 years. And then what? The tolling would go away?
Do you think this is a good idea?
