European regulators have given the go-ahead for humans to be genetically modified for the very first time. Scientists will attempt to cure beta thalassaemia, a blood disorder which reduces the production of haemoglobin, by using something known as DNA-splicing.

According to Britain's Daily Mail, "Scientists at the biotech company Crispr hope that they can alter the body's code to stop the genetic mutation and restore healthy levels of haemoglobin."
