Should synagogue massacre suspect face death penalty? Today's Poll...

Robert Bowers Mug Shot

His name is Robert Bowers and on Saturday in Pittsburgh, he allegedly walked into the Etz Chaim Synagogue (The Tree of Life) and killed 11 people including a 97-year-old Holocaust survivor.

The Tree of Live victims were identified as Joyce Fienberg, 75, of Oakland; Richard Gottfried, 65, of Ross Township; Rose Mallinger, 97, of Squirrel Hill; Jerry Rabinowitz, 66, of Edgewood; Cecil Rosenthal, 59, of Squirrel Hill; David Rosenthal, 54, of Squirrel Hill; Bernice Simon, 84, of Wilkinsburg; Sylvan Simon, 87, of Wilkinsburg; Daniel Stein, 71, of Squirrel Hill; Melvin Wax, 88, of Squirrel Hill; and Irving Younger, 69, of Mount Washington.

And now Federal Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Bowers during the anti-Semitic rampage. Marc Raimondi, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice, said the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania “has initiated the approval process” to seek the death penalty.

According to the criminal affidavit, after his arrest, the alleged shooter told one police officer: “They’re committing genocide against my people. I just want to kill Jews.”

The President said the shooter should die: “People who do this should get the death penalty. I think they should stiffen up laws and I think they should very much bring the death penalty to anybody who does a thing like this to innocent people.”

He added: “They should really suffer the ultimate price — pay the ultimate price. I’ve felt this way for a very long time. People disagree with me, and I can’t imagine why.”

So what do you think? If found guilty, should the shooter face death?
