Two of Iowa's law makers plan to introduce a new Bill when the Legislature reconvenes in January, which would allow college athletes to be paid.

Joe Mitchell (R- Mt. Pleasant) and Ras Smith (D-Waterloo) have been working together and are partly inspired by the recent law change in California which will allow college athletes to be paid, placing Iowa at a disadvantage.

"Really good players are going to look at it and say 'well I can get paid for using my own name if I go to school in California, but if I go to Iowa, well I can't,'" Mitchell was quoted as saying.

According to KCRG, Mitchell added: “There are specific individuals that bring a ton of value to the school and a lot of revenue to the school, and they should be able to make money off their own names. And it’s regardless of whether you’re in football or tennis or golf. They all have the same ability to do that, but really, it’s just the free market working.”

Do you think there are any circumstances when paying college athletes is a good idea?
