Yesterday the Secretary of Defense Mark Esper fired Navy Secretary Richard Spencer over his handling of the case against Navy SEAL Chief Eddie Gallagher.

“Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper has asked for the resignation of Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer after losing trust and confidence in him regarding his lack of candor over conversations with the White House involving the handling of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement.

Gallagher was tried and cleared of murder of an ISIS fighter in a court martial, but he was reduced in rank by the Navy anyway over the one charge he was found guilty of - posing with a dead Taliban terrorist.

However, President Trump - the Commander in Chief (which I put here as a lot of people seem to have forgotten this), restored his rank and therefore his retirement, but the Navy wasn't done with Chief Gallagher. It ordered a review and raised the prospect that Gallagher could lose his SEAL Trident.

The President took to Twitter.

So is this the right call?
