Ames City Council became the latest Iowa jurisdiction to grandstand last night, as it passed what they say is a mask wearing mandate in a 5-1 vote. But just like the rest, there is no punishment if you ignore them so it is completely worthless.
Both the Republican Governor Kim Reynolds and Democrat Attorney General Tom Miller have said that cities and counties have no legal authority to implement mask mandates with enforcement measures.
Which is probably why Ames, just like all the rest, has zero enforcement measures and zero punishments if you fail to obey. They appear to enjoy the little power they have to control other people's lives way too much in my opinion.
Ames joins Iowa City and Des Moines with similar worthless mandates.
