Why do you think US church membership has dropped below 50% for first time?

US Church membership has dropped below 50% for the very first time.

According to Gallup, in 2020, 47% of Americans said they belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque, down from 50% in 2018 and 70% in 1999.

The company first started looking at this trend in 1937 when it was 73%. It stayed in the 70s for the next sixty years!

That's when the steady decline began, but this is the first time that it has shown less than half the US population has belonged to a religious institution.
