Checking in on the planting progress

On a foggy morning in Southeastern Iowa, about a mile South of Mt. Union we found Eric Totemeier just about ready to hit the field:

That's a 24 row corn planter on 30 inch row spacings which is 60 feet wide in the field. If you've ever wondered what it takes to unfold the thing, you can watch for yourself here:

Pretty amazing how quickly that happens, and now looks like:

So how does it work? Well, with a lot of technology...notice the four different controllers:

It's a good thing it's all working, because look...there is no mark or guide on where to drive:

Eric says he's about half done with corn planting and about 1/3 done with beans. From there it was off to Cottor, Iowa to see Bob Davis:

It's a different view from the tilled soil earlier to this no-till operation after spring-applied NH3 and a cover crop:
