Rep. Axne issues statement on reports of Vilsack returning to USDA

Today, Iowa District 3 Congresswoman Cindy Axne issued the following statement amid multiple reports that President-elect Joe Biden will soon nominate Tom Vilsack to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

“Tom Vilsack’s experience speaks for itself – and as someone whose first job at the State of Iowa was in the Vilsack Administration, I’ve seen his commitment to good government and support for the people he serves up close.

As our family farmers and agricultural communities face the challenges of recovering from trade uncertainty and the undermining of the Renewable Fuel Standard, there is no person better suited to lead the Department tasked with responding to their concerns than Tom.

Tom and his wife Christie are dedicated public servants who understand the needs of rural America. With this nomination, Iowa can know that they have another key ally for their interests in Washington.

I have greatly valued Tom’s expertise and knowledge over my first term in the House, and I look forward to working with him more next Congress after what I believe will be a smooth confirmation by my colleagues in the Senate.”
