A golden opportunity for biofuels

Governor Reynolds has come up with an idea to establish an Iowa Biofuels Standard, meaning a statewide minimum blend for all fuels sold in the state at 10 percent for ethanol and 11 percent for biodiesel.

"The Iowa biofuels standard proposed by Gov. Kim Reynolds will increase the production and use of ethanol and biodiesel," says Aaron Putze from the Iowa Soybean Association. "The results: cleaner air, a stable and reliable market for Iowa farmers, economic activity and job creation."

Iowa Soybean Association President and Iowa Soybean Farmer Jeff Jorgensen says 13 percent of the price of each bushel of soybeans is supported by sales of biofuels:

The biofuels industry employs over 45,000 people in Iowa, and obviously this legislation if enacted would dramatically increase that number:
