Cattlemen's Beef Quarters Leadership Transition

“You know the old saying... Don’t fix what’s not broken.” That is exactly what Wayne Baumhover said when asked about how he will handle the future of the Cattlemen’s Beef Quarters. After 38 years, John Mortimer is retiring from his position as President of the Cattlemen’s Beef Quarters and nominated Wayne Baumhover to take over beginning Sunday, August 21st, the final day of the 2022 Iowa State Fair. Discussing with Mortimer, we gained some insights as to how Baumhover was chosen to be his replacement. Mortimer said that finding someone as qualified as Wayne was “pure luck.” Wayne is skilled in all areas necessary to pursue this position without question, John explained to us in an interview. This position will be a tough transition no matter who takes over, which is exactly why John is also in no hurry to desert the Cattlemen’s Beef Quarters. This fair-famous restaurant began in a handmade shack by John Mortimer and friends with only a few counties of cattlemen being represented, but quickly grew into one of the most popular places to visit on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Due to being there from the ground up, Mortimer is more than willing to stick around as long as necessary to help things get rolling with new management until they are comfortable and confident! Wayne Baumhover reported that he is “absolutely honored” to have been chosen to continue this important representation of the Iowa beef industry by John. Be sure to stop by the Cattlemen's Beef Quarters before the end of fair and John Mortimer’s 38 year stretch as President!
