Ruth Comer and Dave Schwartz, CEO of the YMCA, joined us in the studio just after the 8:30 news. The YMCA is in the middle of their annual fundraising campaign with a goal of securing more than $1.5 million in donations to support the Y's cause of strengthening the foundations of our community. More than 400 campaign volunteers will be calling on businesses, organizations and individuals to share the story of the Y and ask for financial support. Each year, the YMCA touches the lives of more than 100,000 members of the Greater Des Moines community. For more information, go to www.dmymca.org.
Just after the 6:30 news this morning, Sandra Benner joined us by phone. She and her husband Alan have an Australian Cattle Dog named Genuine Risk. Genuine Risk along with a Border Collie named Scram, owned by Renee White, will be representing the USA against 43 other nations in the European Open Agility Competition in Italy this summer. Like the Olympics, it is totally self-funded, so they are looking for sponsors and fund raising ideas. If you can help them, check them out on Facebook at "Help Send Genuine Risk to Italy" or go online to www.simplyagility.com, or you can call Sandra at 515-991-6965. Good luck to both dogs!!!!
Thank you to all of you who participated in our "Secret Sound" contest this morning. Leila came up with a really great one! We started playing the sound at 5:35AM and people guessed all morning long. One person came close with "dominoes falling" and one person got it after the video was posted on our website this morning. Tune in again next Thursday for the Van and Bonnie "Secret Sound". If you missed it, it was iPhones set up like dominoes falling. It's an incredible video. You can see it further down this page.
Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, we'll be calling out a bunch of names off the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt and of course, we'll have the Friday Morning News Quiz.
Enjoy the beautiful day!
