This man could save your life! & What's special this weekend at the DM Symphony? (Bonnie's blog 3/28/17)

Cameron Stufflebeam from Polk County Emergency Management joined us in the studio just after the 7:30 news.  This week is Severe Weather Preparedness Week and Wednesday is Severe Weather Preparedness Day.  The sirens will be sounding at 10AM on Wednesday morning and if you don't hear yours go off, they would like you to contact them so they can get it fixed.  Cameron said they would like you and your family to think this week about what you would do in an emergency.  You should have a "disaster" plan and have an emergency kit that includes blankets, long sleeved shirt, long pants, water and a hard hat.  Figure out your "safe" locations and how to get in touch with your family if you are separated by the disaster.  For more information, go to www.ready.gov.

Maestro Joseph Giunta of the Des Moines Symphony joined us in the studio just after the 8:30 news.  They are doing a special Beyond the Score: Berlioz’s ‘Symphonie Fantastique,’ 7:30PM Saturday, April 1 & 2:30PM Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Des Moines Civic Center (221 Walnut Street, Des Moines).

The first half of this unique program blends music, multimedia and theatre to depict the dramatic life of an artist replete with unrequited love, witches, guillotines and phantasmagorical dreams. After intermission, you’ll hear the epic Symphonie Fantastique in its groundbreaking entirety.  Get your tickets at www.DMSymphony.org or 1/2 hour before each performance at the Civic Center box office.

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, we will be broadcasting live from the Mills Civic Hy-Vee Store at I-35 and Mills Civic Parkway.  We will be inviting you to purchase $6 bags of groceries (already pre-bagged) for the needy in our community!  Hy-Vee will match each bag sold up to 1040 bags!  Plus, when you purchase the bags, you will receive a "goodie bag" from Hy-Vee and the first 100 bags will include a Hy-Vee Market Grille gift card!  We hope to see you there tomorrow 5-9AM!!!

Enjoy the dry day today because Jeriann is calling for a lot of rain tomorrow and Thursday!
