Boots on the Ground: Ken Chester at the New York Auto Show

2017 NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

Here are just a few of the many exciting vehicles I discovered during media days at this year’s New York International Auto Show:

2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 50th Anniversary convertible – Chevrolet celebrates 50 years of Camaro with this very special anniversary model.  Distinguished by its “Fifty” emblems, this unique vehicle will also find its way into the hearts of Camaro lovers everywhere.

2017 Rimac Concept One – Billed as “The Supercar of the Future, Today” This electric performance car from Croatia is produced by Rimac Automobili.    The Concept One was designed from the ground-up to utilize the advantages inherent in electric motors and create a whole new breed – the supercar of the 21st century. Rimac Automobili’s unique powertrain is divided into four sub-systems. Each system consists of a separate electric powertrain with an independent inverter, motor and gearbox for each wheel of the car.

2018 Toyota CR-H – This all-new compact crossover SUV offers both fun and utility to motorists who crave the economical operation of a subcompact vehicle with the advantages of a crossover.

2018 Lincoln Navigator SUV – Lincoln rides into the future with a complete redesign of its large SUV – beautiful inside and out with a generous helping of contemporary styling, this ride has what it takes to get Lincoln back in the game.

2018 Subaru Ascent SUV concept – Although labeled as a concept, it is widely reported that this is pretty much what the all-new large Subaru SUV is going to look like.  Big and luxurious, it felt more like an upmarket European offering than a Japanese one,

2018 Honda Clarity sedan – And then there were 3.  Honda has now expanded the Clarity into a family of three vehicles – each with a different prime mover.  The newly updated Clarity fuel cell sedan, Clarity Electric and the 50-state ready Clarity Hybrid

2018 MINI Countryman Cooper S ALL4 Hybrid – MINI is now officially in the hybrid car market with this latest offering.  Exclusively available on just the Countryman ALL4, this hybrid employs a three-cylinder gasoline engine in front and an electric motor at the back for true all wheel motoring.

2019 Lucid Air sedan – This is another all-electric entry from a new upstart called Lucid Motors.  Staffed by industry veterans, the company is in the process of securing financing for its all-new factory in Arizona.  Beautiful inside and out, this may in fact rise to become a real alternative to the Tesla Model S

2017 RAM 1500 Sublime Sport – With a projected limited run of 3000 units, this pickup truck promises to get noticed where ever it goes.  It is based on the Crew Cab configuration and is available in two or four wheel drive configurations.

2018 Buick Regal Tour X crossover – Say goodbye to the Regal sedan as the Tour X crossover and Regal five-door hatchback will replace it next year.
