Van and I broadcast live this morning from the Dallas County Jail. Here we are wearing our orange jump suits getting ready to eat our prison breakfast of Fruit Loops, waffles, peaches and eggs. Shortly after this picture was taken, one of our great WHO Radio listeners brought us in a Casey's breakfast pizza...yummm! Currently the Dallas County Jail is paying to house prisoners in Story County, Guthrie County, Boone County and Jasper County because there is no room in the Dallas County Jail. They are paying anywhere from $45 to $55 per day per prisoner to house these prisoners in other counties. Last year they spent over $250,000 housing prisoners in other counties (if I remember correctly). There is also all the expense of transporting all these prisoners and the time it takes away from deputies being on duty to help reduce or investigate crime. The vote on the bond issue to build a new facility is May 2nd in Dallas County. Be sure to get out and vote no matter which way you feel on the issue!
