Iowa Hawkeyes Ladies Football Academy...Savor Des Moines...Prairie Meadows horse racing starts tonite! (Bonnie's blog 4/27/17)

Mary Ferentz joined us this morning shortly after the 8:00 news to talk about the Iowa Hawkeyes Ladies Football Academy coming to Kinnick Stadium on June 10th from 11AM to 4:30PM.  Women of all ages are invited to join Head Coach Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Football Team for the ultimate Hawkeye football experience.  Participants will spend the day with the players and coaches, learning the game and getting a rare behind the scenes look into Hawkeye football.  For more information, go to www.IowaLadiesFootballAcademy.com.

Megan Grandgeorge of Variety-The Children's Charity joined us in the studio just after the 8:30 news. Young Variety's signature event, Savor Des Moines is this Saturday, April 29th, at the State Historical Museum, 600 E. Locust Street in Des Moines.  Savor Des Moines is an evening of culinary sampling featuring appetizers and cocktails from the best restaurants in Greater Des Moines.  In addition to sampling, the evening includes dancing, a gift card tree and a raffle with a chance to win a 55-inch TV.  Tickets are $40 per person in advance or $50 at the door.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.varietyiowa.com/events.

John Hernandez of Prairie Meadows joined us in the studio just after the 7:30 news.  Horse racing begins tonight at Prairie Meadows at 6PM.  Prairie Meadows is a 1 mile oval track, but runs races from 3/4 mile to 1 1/4 miles.  There is approximately 20 minutes between races and they can be viewed outside if weather is good, or inside if weather is not good.  The Kentucky Derby is May 6th and Prairie Meadows will be showing the race...people are invited to wear their Kentucky Derby hats!  Locally, Denny Albaugh has a horse running in the Kentucky Derby...J Boys Echo!

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, we'll have two more chances for you to win Paul McCartney tickets as well as $1,000 in cash!  Plus, Kathy Coady of Hope Ministries has something special to let us know about!

Get your mowing done today, because Jeriann Ritter says rain off and on all day tomorrow!
