Kites On The Green....Hope Ministries Special Donation (Bonnie's blog 4/28/17)

Congratulations to all of our Paul McCartney ticket winners this week!

Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld joined us by phone this morning just after the 8:30 news to fill us in on their annual Kit Flying day coming up next Saturday (May 6th) from 10AM-6PM at the Johnston Commons. You will see thousands of kites flying that day including the huge show kites that are 40 feet long!  They are featuring a Star Wars theme this year with Star Wars characters roaming the area.  The Lego Star Wars film will be showing in the Johnson Library.  The Johnston Commons is located at 6700 Merle Hay Road.

Kathy Coady of Hope Ministries joined us by phone just after the 6:30 news.  They have received a $78,000 gift and the donors are challenging other members of our community to match their gift this month!  Hope Ministries is 100% privately funded and has served the homeless, hungry, abused or addicted by providing food, clothing and shelter since 1915.  If the community responds to fully meet the $78,000 challenge, Hope Ministries will receive a total of $156,000 to change lives right here in central Iowa.  Make your gift today at or call 515-265-7272 to learn more.  You can also mail a contribution to Hope Ministries, P.O. Box 862, Des Moines, IA  50304.

Monday on Van and Bonnie, we'll have a professional golfer joining us on the show, Jeff Stein will join us in the studio and you'll have two more chances to win $1,000 in our "Make Your Wallet Great Again" contest! Don't forget the Iowa Barnstormers are playing Saturday night and are taking donations for the DMARC Food Pantry....each donor will receive a "buy one, get one free" ticket voucher to a future Barnstormer game!

Have a great weekend!
