Wrong-way crash on I-35 in West Des Moines kills 2 UDPATE

The names of the people killed and hurt in a wrong-way crash on I-35 early Sunday have been released.  A vehicle going the wrong way crashed head-on into another car, killing both drivers and injuring a passenger.

West Des Moines Police say the wrong-way driver was 49-year-old Monte Johnson of Hartford, Iowa. 

The other driver was 32-year-old West Des Moines resident Nripin Chinni.  A passenger in Chinni's car,  27-year-old Durga Papina of West Des Moines, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries

ORIGINAL STORY: 

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA - A vehicle going the wrong way on I-35 near West Des Moines crashed head-on into another vehicle, killing both drivers early Sunday.

West Des Moines Police set up a detour for I-35 northbound south of Des Moines at Highway 5, and there was a huge emergency response as one car caught fire and the Interstate was shut down.  Police Dispatch described a small passenger car.

A passenger in the northbound vehicle, the one going in the right direction, was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital.
