CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - More than 100 workers at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids will be losing their jobs.

The company has announce it will be ending its Fabrication Operations in Cedar Rapids by spring 2019.

The division currently produce mechanical assemblies for products.

Josh Baynes, Senior Manager of Media Relations Strategy at Rockwell Collins, tells KCRG-TV 9 that the Fabrication Operation has had a financial loss for several years. He says the company doesn't see long-term recovery.

Baynes said the evaluation of long-term plans for Fabrication Operations began before the pending United Technologies acquisition of Rockwell Collins was announced in September 2017.

The work currently done by Fabrication Operations will transition to external suppliers, and about 105 employees who currently work for Rockwell Collins in Fabrication Operations will lose those jobs.

Baynes said the people impacted by the transition will have the opportunity to apply for other open positions within the company.

He says Rockwell Collins plans to work with IBEW 1362 throughout the transition.
