DES MOINES, IOWA - On Monday central Iowa will see light rain in the morning and a brief break in the rain by the afternoon as the dry slot works its way in.  This will change over to light snow after sunset on Monday, but less than 1″ of snow is expected in the Des Moines metro area.

Blizzard in northwest Iowa

If you live in northwest Iowa or plan on traveling there, minor ice accumulation, significant snowfall, and Blizzard conditions are expected on Monday. The far northern border of the state will see 8-12″ of snow with a very sharp cutoff just south of the border. 

Counties like Kossuth, Palo Alto, and Buena Vista could see anywhere from 3-12″ of snow with the highest amounts over the NW part of the county and lowest amounts to the SE. Humboldt, Pocahontas, Webster, and Calhoun counties are expected to see snowfall totals between 2-5″.

Cloud cover will start to decrease on Tuesday with cooler, but still above average temperatures. Highs will be in the 30s with lows in the 20s. This will continue through Wednesday with another warm up into the 40s starting on Thursday.
