Ankeny, Iowa is 4th fastest-growing city in U.S.

ANKENY, Iowa-  Two Des Moines suburbs continue to see strong population growth.   Ankeny is the fourth-fastest growing city in the United States,  with a population of  50-thousand or more.   The city added more than 37-hundred residents between July of 2016 and July 2017, for a growth rate of 6.4 pecrcent.   

Ankeny completed a special census on Dec. 10, 2014, that showed the population to be 54,598. The 2017 estimate puts the population at 62,416 and today, the estimate stands at 65,000. 

Ankeny’s population has more than doubled over the last 15 years.

Waukee grew by nine percent in the same period, to 20,649.    Waukee's growth is the highest of any Des Moines metro city with the 12-month span.

The nine percent growth totaled 1,704 new Waukee residents. During that same time frame (July 2016-June 2017), 1,082 building permits were issued by the City’s Development Services Department for a total of $213 million.
