Rain, sleet, snow next for Iowa Monday night to Tuesday SNOW MAP

DES MOINES, Iowa - It's not certain exactly where the next winter wave headed for Iowa will hit, but it looks certain we'll see some combination of rain, sleet, and snow.

Meteorologists say it'll start Monday night and run into Tuesday, but differ on how much and quite what form of winter precipitation Iowa will see.

The National Weather Service has sent the above snowfall map out to its emergency management partners in the Des Moines region, showing possible snow totals of 2 inches in the Des Moines metro area, 3 inches around Ames and Marshalltown, 5 inches around Fort Dodge, and 6 inches in the far north, around Mason City and Clear Lake.

But, the National Weather Service says snowfall totals are hard to predict with this storm.

WHO-TV Meteorologists agree, and say we'll see a chance for freezing drizzle Monday into Tuesday, that  may cause some icing on the roadways throughout the day Tuesday.

Meteorologist Amber Alexander says light snow is going to be the main concern for northern Iowa with this weather system, with up to 5″ possible. Central Iowa could see 1 to 2 inches of snow. Southern Iowa will see less snow and more slick conditions due to freezing drizzle or rain.
