Hy-Vee stores in Perry and Jefferson delivered drinking water to residents. They handed out the water at the Bagley Library. Each resident got three one-gallon jugs and two packages of 24 pack bottled water.
This, after state officials notified the city that the levels of manganese in the city water were dangerously high. Residents were told not to use the water-even if it's boiled.
More than 200 people picked up the water since 7am Thursday.
City leaders say they've begun the planning process for a new water treatment plant, but it's years away from being built.
Plus they don't know how long the community won't be able to use tap water.
