Police: Gang bust will make huge impact on Des Moines crime

DES MOINES, Iowa- Federal and local law enforcement officials says the arrest of more than a dozen local gang-members will make a huge impact on crime in the Des Moines area.

Those arrested this week are accused members of the "C-Block Gang." Authorities say they're accused in shootings, robberies, and murders, and drug trafficking.

Those facing charges include:

Daeron J. Merrett

Johnnathan M. Frencher

Freddie L. Frencher

Marcus A. Hunt

Cordney L. Smith

Barry L. Adair, Jr

Jose A. Sanchez, Jr

Conrad F. Taylor, Jr

Jhamel D. Booker

Cornelius N. Pope

Peter E. Cooper, Jr

Walter S. Burgs

Antowan L. Taylor

Paul J. Castelline

Authorities began the investigation nearly three years ago in Des Moines. Investigators say the C-Block gang is considered a neighborhood gang, concentrated in the Cheatom Park area but is tied to the Crips, a national criminal street gang.
