A GoFundMe account's been set up to raise money to help an iconic Des Moines restaurant stay open now that the owner has suddently died.
Sambetti's Restaurant at 1430 2nd Avenue has been open since the late 1970's. Owner Paul Strome (pictured) bought it from his parents, Sam and Betty Caligiuri in 1985, making it one of the few restaurants in the Des Moines area to remain under the control of the same family since it opened.
Paul Strome died suddenly March 25th. His family has set up a GoFundMe account with the goal of raising enough money to keep it operating until Strome's financial affairs are settled. The goal of the account was set at 5 thousand dollars. As of Tuesday afternoon it was less than 500 dollars shy of that goal.
