Record temps possible with heat wave today NEBRASKA IOWA ILLINOIS

DES MOINES, Iowa - We're going to get close to record-setting heat in Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois today.

New records are most likely in Western Iowa and eastern Nebraska. In Council Bluffs and Omaha the record high is 93, and that's the forecast high today.

In Central Iowa, the Des Moines and Ames area will be within one or two degrees of the temperature record of 90.

In Eastern Iowa, the Cedar Rapids area and the Davenport/Moline Quad Cities area will be about 4 degrees or less from their record highs, also 90 for both metros.

On the backside of the heatwave we'll have a chance of severe storms and heavy rain over the next several days in Iowa. Click on the story link below for storm maps and more information.
