Iowa DCI warns of new phone scam

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation wants people to beware of a phone scam involving callers who misrepresent themselves as DCI staff.

DCI says scammers are trying to extort money related the potential victim's access to a website. The callers say they're DCI agents working with the FBI to collect money.

The DCI says people also say their caller IDs show a number for the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

The DCI does't request payment over the phone. They say anyone who gets one of the scam calls should contact local law enforcement.
