UPDATE: Crews clearing large coal train derailment near Red Oak, Iowa

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Iowa- Crews spent the day today cleaning up after an early morning coal train derailment near Red Oak, Iowa.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe reported the derailment shortly after 4 a.m. this (Wednesday) morning, near D Avenue west of Red Oak, under the Boxelder Ave bridge. Approximately 20-30 coal cars were involved.

There were no injuries and no hazards to the public.

Montgomery Co Sheriff's Office, Mills Co Sheriff's Office, Montgomery Co EMA, Red Oak Fire & Rescue and Montgomery Co Secondary Roads assisted on scene.
