DES MOINES, Iowa -- For the first time in Iowa's history there are more than two-million people registered to vote heading into a general election year.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says right now there are 2,014,226 Iowans registered to vote.
"I think that's one of the best we've had to start December heading into a general election--which we expect to grow even higher as we go forward" Pate says
As for how those people are registered, Pate says more than 743,000 Iowans don't claim a political party.
He says there are just over 640,000 registered Republicans, and just under 614,000 registered Democrats
