Northwest Iowa teen charged with murder in January shooting

MAPLETON, Iowa -- A Northwest Iowa teenager is facing murder charges in the January death of another teen.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Jay Lee Neubaum, 17, of Whiting is charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Joseph Hopkins, 16, of Mapleton.

The DCI says the State Medical Examiner determined Hopkins' died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Neubaum's bond is set at a million dollars. He was taken to the juvenile detention center in Woodbury County.
