Daily COVID-19 Deaths Down Slightly, 696 New Cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - There are 11 new deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa and 696 additional positive cases of the virus as of Friday at 10 a.m.

There are 43,778 total cases, as 5,551 tests were conducted Thursday. The positive test rate is currently 8.0 percent, which has been rising somewhat in recent days.

There have been a total of 865 deaths statewide. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks, with daily totals in single-digits.

Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.

A total of 475,497 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Iowa, and one-in-seven Iowans has been tested.

There have been 32,495 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced several weeks ago that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate jumped from 62 percent to roughly 80 percent .

The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 22 long term care centers Friday, equal to the previous day. Long term care outbreaks have started to climb recently after sharply dropping from as much as 36 earlier this year. There have been 468 long term care center deaths, accounting for 53 percent of the state total.

There are 225 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 71 ICU patients with 29 on ventilators.

The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa.
