Man accused of crimes in Clive, Ankeny arrested in Michigan

(Clive, IA) -- A man wanted in central Iowa for Identity Theft is accused of committing similar crimes in Troy Michigan. Forty-seven-year-old Nicolae Barbu was arrested in Troy, Michigan and his being held on a $1.6 million bond.

The warrants here in Clive will stay active until Barbu can be extradited back to Iowa.

Barbu is currently wanted for multiple felony charges of Identity Theft and Credit Card Forgery.

Police say Barbu, along with an unknown accomplice, stole credit card from a gym locker, then used the cards to buy high dollar computer electronics.

Police believe Barbu is part a a large theft ring that's responsible for similar crimes across the U.S. Barbu is also wanted by Ankeny Police for similar crimes, including Money Laundering.
