DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus is in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says it was found in an unvaccinated person under the age of 18 who lives in Black Hawk County.

IDPH says the Omicron-positive person is symptom-free, but because of travel exposure the family was tested on advice from public health.

The state says Black Hawk Public Health is in regular contact with the family of the person who tested positive.

Every state bordering Iowa also has positive Omicron cases.
