Snow Arrives In Northern Iowa

(Des Moines, IA) -- Snow is starting to pick up in far north central Iowa. Part of northwest and north central Iowa are under a winter storm warning. The National Weather Service says some parts of the warned area could receive heavy snow, (6-9 inches). Heavy snow is expected thru the evening along with deteriorating travel conditions. The NWS is predicting Mason City could receive more than three inches of snow.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting highways are partially snow-covered as of late Friday afternoon. More than 160 Iowa DOT snow-plows are on the roads as of 5 p.m.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6 a.m. December 11th for the following counties: Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Hancock, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Winnebago, and Worth.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the following counties until 6 a.m. December 11th: Boone, Bremer, Butler, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Sac, Story, Webster, and Wright.
