(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Forecasters in Iowa say widespread power outages are expected Wednesday after strong winds move through the region.

City leaders are recommending people have a plan.

"That might include a three-day supply of food and water ... [a] battery-powered radio, flashlights, first-aid kit, those basic needs that you might have," says Phillip Platz, Public Services Communications Specialist for the city of Cedar Rapids.

The National Weather Service says winds gusts could reach up to 80 miles-an-hour in parts of Iowa.
