(Omaha, NE) -- Over 40,000 households in the Omaha metro lost power on Wednesday due to afternoon thunderstorms.
The line of storms produced at least six tornadoes in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa Wednesday afternoon, in addition to strong winds with gusts surpassing 90 miles per hour.
As of 10:45 pm Wednesday night, over 12,000 OPPD customers were without power in eastern Nebraska, and 13,000 Mid-American Energy customers in Council Bluffs were without power.

The utilities remind residents to stay at least 30 feet away from any downed power lines and to report them immediately.
