Racist and Homophobic Slurs Said at Johnston School Board

(Johnston, IA) -- Johnston School Board is issuing a statement regarding slurs said at Monday night's public meeting. The administration says there will be no action taken against a parents who read homophobic and racist slurs. The statement read that since the words were said as a quote from a book being discussed on the agenda, it is not considered defamatory. The statement from Johnston also said that every parent is allowed to voice their opinions at the meetings. Johnston School Board has been considering "The Hate U Give" and "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian '' be removed from libraries and curriculums.
