Wednesday Sets Record For Most Hurricane Force Thunderstorm Wind Gusts

(Undated) -- Wednesday's storms will go down in the record books across the Midwest. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center says Wednesday set the record for the most hurricane force thunderstorm wind gusts in a day, 55. Hurricane force wind gusts are 75 MPH or higher. Fifty-five is the most reports since the National Weather Service started tracking the stat in 2004. The previous record was set on August 10th, 2020, during the derecho.
