(Des Moines, IA) -- The National Weather Service says southern Iowa will likely see the heaviest snow-totals from a predicted snow storm this weekend. NWS Meteorologist Kenny Pedrazik says the rate of snowfall Saturday could be between one and two inches per hour. He says southeast Iowa could get between 5-10 inches of snow. Pedrazik says the storm is also bringing strong northerly winds which will create blowing and drifting of snow. He says dangerous wind-chills are also expected with the storm this weekend, possibly as cold as 30-below zero.

The Winter Storm Warning and Wind Chill Warnings go into effect at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Friday afternoon, freezing drizzle created slick roads from western into central Iowa. Roads in northeast and east central Iowa were also reportedly partially snow/ice covered. The Iowa Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to check the forecast and road conditions before venturing out this weekend.
