Arrest Made In Teen Girl's Death In Cedar Rapids

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A man's behind bars, charged in a 15-year-old girl's murder in Cedar Rapids. Nineteen-year-old Marshawn Jackson is accused of killing Tyliyah Whitis of Peoria. Her body was found shot to death in a vehicle outside the Hawthorne Hills apartment complex in the 2200 block of C Street S.W. in Cedar Rapids, July 20th last year.

Officers were called to the location at 6:19 a.m. that morning, and found a vehicle with heavy damage and the Whitis' body in the driver's seat. The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner ruled the official cause of death as gunshot wound of chest and the manner of death, homicide.

Jackson is also charged with Intimidation with a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Jackson was already in custody at the Linn County Jail on unrelated charges and served with the arrest warrants.
