Severe Weather Spawns Multiple Tornado Warnings, Damage in Iowa

(Des Moines, IA) -- A lot Iowans will be cleaning up damaged caused by severe storms this (Saturday) afternoon. Storms prompted numerous tornado warnings in the afternoon and early evening.

There are no reports of injuries (as of this writing). MidAmerican Energy reports more than 10-thousand power outages as of 7:30 Saturday evening.

Initial damage reports include:

Allerton, Wayne County: A trailer home destroyed, trees down

3 miles ESE of Chariton, Lucas County, reports of structures damaged, major tree damage

1 mile ESE Pleasant Hill, Polk County, homes damaged

Jasper County, I-80 semi overturned

Lambs Grove, Jasper County, home destroyed

Norwalk, Warren County, tree damage

Winterset, Madison, County damage to buildings and trees

Numerous reports of hail, from pea size to tennis ball size

The Severe weather was to usher in a cold front, with colder temperatures and very windy conditions. A winder advisory will be in effect for a large part of Iowa overnight.
