Fire Causes Extensive Damage To Northeast Cedar Rapids Home

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Fire caused extensive damage to a home in northeast Cedar Rapids this (Monday) morning. Crews were called to the 3600 block of Northwood Drive NE just after 11 a.m. Before firefighters arrived, a citizen had helped the sole occupant of the home was okay, then entered the home to rescue a dog.

Arriving firefighters entered and used attack lines to start suppressing the fire. One firefighter was hit by ceiling materials that fell on him. The firefighter was checked out on-site and was able to return to work.

The home sustained considerable damage to the interior and exterior. The cause is still under investigation.
